It is SO much fun being a Luxury Waukesha Family Photographer- WAIT til you see this fun and easy going crew!

I met the Peterson family at Retzer Nature Center in Waukesha, Wisconsin for their fall family photo session. They have not one, but two toddlers to chase around, so they are a busy family! I was glad they were able to carve out some time to meet me for their family portrait mini session.

Their little ones are just about a year apart, so it was really adorable to see them play, chase eachother and interact! JJ just loved to grab Cam’s hand and try to keep up! He was a fast little guy, but so full of sweet smiles! I just adore his cheeks! And JJ did too! She had no problem leaning in and planting a few kisses right on his cheeks!

Sessions with toddlers can always go one of two ways; chaos or fun. And this session was fun and full of energy! The kids did great! Clients often ask me, as a luxury Waukesha family photographer, if there is anything parents can do to help their family session with small children run smoothly! Here are a few tips for avoiding mistakes with little ones at your family photo session:

I recommend bringing favorite toys and some snacks, just in case! But no snacks that would turn the mouth blue or red! The small sized marshmallows work great!

Dress them appropriately! If it looks like it will be chilly, bring some cute and cozy hats and scarves! The bundled up look is much cuter on the kiddos than purple lips and tears.

Children are especially sensitive to stress or worries, so please try to remain cheerful prior to and during the session. Don’t worry if your child isn’t behaving perfectly during the session, remain positive. It can help to have a toy or activity they really enjoy on hand in case they are in a difficult state. Plan to be flexible; we can take a break if needed and we will roll with whatever happens.

If your child is still of napping age, make sure they nap before the shoot and get a good night’s rest the evening before.

Avoid colorful drinks or lolly pops within 24 hours of your shoot, don’t let them eat or drink anything that will stain their face, teeth or mouths.

It can help to talk up how much fun we’re going to have and how I (the photographer) am so excited to meet them and photograph their smile! 🙂
