Baby August | Luxury Brookfield Newborn Photographer

Lifestyle Newborn Sessions

I love being a luxury Brookfield Newborn Photographer because it means I get to tell stories for sweet families like this one!

I met the Schultek Family at their lovely home in New Berlin for this cozy lifestyle newborn session. Newborn Augie was just four days old in these photos. This family has so much love for their sweet new baby. I was honored to capture their first days together at home. Big sister, Nicollete was very loving towards her new baby brother as she sweetly kissed his head. She also did a great job holding August.

This session went so smoothly and was so relaxed. Newborn Augie was very cooperative for me! He nursed right away at the beginning of the session and then drifted peacefully off to sleep in his mom’s arms in the rocking chair. August was such a beautiful baby and some of the images below of him sleeping in his crib or in his mom or dad’s arms are some of my favorites!

One thing parents ask me often is how do we go about getting great shots of the little ones without toddler tantrums and meltdowns? Sometimes family sessions with young children can feel chaotic; let’s face it, toddlers and little ones are quite unpredictable. But not this session! So first tip: It always helps when the parents are relaxed, which Sarah and Chris most certainly were. Young children are extremely sensitive to our energy as adults and because Sarah and Chris were so composed, Nicollete was ready to have fun and take pictures when I got there.

Tip two to a successful family session with children: Let them play and be little! We started their family newborn session with Chris and Nicollete reading some of her favorite books. Then Nicollete showed me some of her favorite toys. I snapped the camera away while she played her pink guitar for baby Augie. This is the best way to help young children get through the session with good behavior; let them play and have fun! Don’t worry, we always get a few of everyone looking and smiling, but kids will only “sit and smile” for so long, so mixing in some fun and genuine play can really help a family session go smoothly.

My third tip for keeping the kiddos happy is to take breaks! I always try to start with pictures of the children and family first, then give them a break and photograph the newborn, and then come back to the siblings for more fun! This break gives them time to unwind, relax, get a snack, and regroup.

Keep these tips in mind for your next family or newborn session with me! Without further ado, please enjoy a few of my favorites from August’s luxury lifestyle newborn session!
